VIDEO ALERT - A Ray at the Beach

For Father's Day, Gregg, Ray, and I went to hike at Leesylvania State Park, located on the Potomac River. We had never been there before and didn't really know what to expect so we were totally surprised to find out that there was a beach.
Although only a river, the Potomac has waves. Not the 'grab your surfboard' kind of waves but the kind that make a blind hounddog use his special yell, the one usually reserved for coons, foxes, extremely nervous little dogs, and the mad pee-er.
I'm not exactly sure what Ray thought those waves were doing but he was quite determined that they weren't going to do it unannounced.
So here is a video (taken with my phone, so the quality isn't great) of Ray using his insides-liquifying voice at the beach.

  1. Ray, you made my day. I haven't laughed so much in a long time!!! You have to wonder what waves are like to a blind dog. Love that rebel yell.

  2. Those waves were totally trying to sneak up and grab you and Gregg. Thank goodness Ray was there to protect you!

  3. I started playing this and my two dogs were in the room. Ray started howling. My two dogs were out the dog door trying to find out who was howling. Louise came back in and is still cocking her head trying to figure it out.

  4. If a foghorn went through puberty, it would sound like Ray's yell...too funny!

  5. LOL appreci8ed by me too :)
Looks like Ray could pull Gregg along on a surf board!
(Much as Twiggy could me on a sk8board)

I assume the Potomac is fresh water?

    1. Well, I did some research and the answer is, it depends. Where we were, the Potomac is probably a bit salty. The farther north you go the fresher the water.

  6. Hooray for Ray! Does Ray actually go all in and swim? I have two young blind Cattle Dogs that love the water (off leash) and will swim while following one of the sighted who is playing fetch. Keep enjoying the beach Ray!

    1. The only swimming off-leash that Ray does is at the end-of-season dog swim at our neighborhood pool. Here's a link to the blog from last year's dog swim.

If I had another dog that Ray could follow I might be tempted to let him off-leash but otherwise I'm afraid, since he never really comes when I call, that he would just keep swimming and I'd never catch him again.
Do you have videos of your dogs? I'd love to see them.

    2. Ray gets to go IN the neighborhood pool?! Wow, nice neighborhood! Yipee!! I did have an oh-crap-no moment with one of my blind dogs (Hiker, who is 3yrs old) last summer in PA at the Allegany Reservoir. She decided to not follow Callie any more and headed for the other side of the reservoir! Fortunately her recall and hearing is excellent. I'm more cautious with Brook (2yrs old) who is blind and partly deaf.

Videos? Oh ya. LOTS!! I'll select a few for you.
